To enter Haven...

She looked up at the gate. She saw the guards awaiting, and realized that things could start to get easier.. with luck anyway. No more roaming.. Will I really be able to live without the constant danger? ... You never know... She thought, raising a hand, in both greeting, and to draw the attention of one of the guards...

Following the worn out road that lead to the once bustling city, Lesley came to a halt outside the gates of Haven, just beside a young girl. Hitching a backpack higher up her shoulder and setting her shovel down, she watched the girl wave, then raised her thumb and finger to her mouth and whistled loudly.

Haven's huge rusted gates slid open slightly, just wide enough for a guard- armed with an old rifle- to slip through. Lesley waved to the guard- they seemed to know each other.
"You've been gone for a while, Lesley," he said, but still had his gun in his hand.
Lesley nodded, "Gettin' worse out there 'cause Summer's comin'. Same as usual- bite check?"
"You know the drill," the guard said, and proceeded to check the exposed parts of her skin for signs of infection, and then checked for any hidden marks. "Clean!" He shouted back to the other guards standing on the other side of the gate.

Nodding, Lesley picked her shovel up again and rested it up on her shoulder. She looked at the new girl, "Not seen you before. You a wanderer seekin' the 'wonders of the fortress called Haven', hmm? In any case, prepare for a bite check and a barrage of annoyin' questions. "

The guard nodded, "That's right. So to start: have you been bitten by anything?" He asked, while stepping closer to look anyway.

"No I haven't ..I've tried to kill anything that got close enough to even think about biting me..." She shrugged then replied to Leslie "Better to have to deal with annoying questions then be roaming during summer."

Lesley nodded, "True, that." She squinted at the girl, thinking of the first part of her sentence. "You fought your way here on your own? Where are you from- and how old are you?"

"More importantly," the guard added, finishing his visual check, "Were you followed by anything?"

"I'm sixteen, and from a place called Whitchurch. Or at least, that's what my parents called it... As to have I been followed by anything, I tried to avoid it, and if I noticed anything, usually I'd try to kill it" She said, her tone gaining an edge when she mentioned her parents.

The guard was silent for a moment, then turned to the gate and shouted "Clean!" he then turned back to the girl, "You're free to enter, miss. If you need anything-"
"-You can come to me," Lesley said with a smile, cutting the guard off.
The guard shrugged, and walked back to his post.

Lesley indicated the gate with a nod, "Comin' in? I gotta stop off at my place first, but then I can show you around, if you want."

"...Sounds good.. Thanks..." Katherine shrugged, looking the older woman over. She looked like she'd also been through a lot. "..Dare I ask your name?" She asked, even though she'd overheard the guard say Leslie's name, she preferred to ask, before using the name
